This Canadian lake home design has a wonderful natural characteristic to it, which exudes casual comfort as a relaxing retreat high above the everyday hustle and bustle. Designed by Calgary-based Sturgess Architecture, this wood country home on Bowen Island faces north on a steep cliff overlooking Howe Sound, surrounded by nature with water at its feet 100m below. This timber home design was made for a couple and their two children, visitors and extended family, divided as a primary residence and guest house which are linked under one roof. This raised house plan is an elongated bow-tie design which maximizes glazing – and the amazing views – while minimizing its visual impact amongst the landscape. The cottage style design boasts an earthy appeal with a naturally finished slate, cedar shingles and a copper-colored roof which extends across the two volumes and framed the view of the water beyond.
