This chic lakefront cottage design makes an idyllic retreat – a gorgeous lake front location, flanked by trees and a killer view. The cottage is timber-clad, and the natural wood really blends beautifully with the surroundings. Located on Olympic Peninsula, Washington, this 1,920-sq.-ft. house designed by Seattle-based BjarkoSerra Architects was inspired by cabins in the Northwest, with a modern twist. There’s no shortage of rustic charms, with its Western Red Cedar wood-clad exterior, terraces and outdoor living areas, amazing windows and doors that invite the outdoors into every room. Fir tongue and groove boards, soapstone and concrete blend beautifully with this forest mountain environment. But the most unique idea is the observation loft, with the views to die for. In respect of the environment, no trees were cut and no land disrupted in the construction of this truly natural lakefront design. You got to build something like this too!
