Bringing new meaning to the term “mobile home,” the modern Sliding House by dRMM Architects is certainly something to be seen and appreciated by the tech savvy, architectural aficionados and the lovers of cool, contemporary design. Located in Suffolk, England, this innovative home’s claim to fame is its unique mobile walls and roof, which slide open to reveal a main house, guest house and greenhouse. The three individual building components are each characterized by a distinct facade – red rubber, glass, and red and black stained larch. Topping it all off is a 20-ton, 28-meter mobile component that slides along grounded rails. The mobile enclosure allows for constantly changing views, degrees of light and an always chancing concept of space, depending on the degree to openness and according to time of day, the weather, and the seasons. dRMM Architects
