French Country House Interior Inspiration By Artistic Couple

It is obvious that the homeowners of the Casa Lavoine apartment in Paris have an eye for creating interior spaces that are almost more like a gallery art installation. Here in the Dining Room it is even more apparent with the collage of photos all within white mattes and black frames. The photos are hung is a slightly askew grid system. This slightly “off” pattern stops the wall from looking to regimented and instead offers an organic flow similar to a school of fish under the sea. To keep the focus on the wall, the ceiling has been painted a shadow shade of grey and the blue tones that show up in many of the pictures is repeated on the area rug below the dining table. The dining table is a solid wood Heerenhuis and the chairs are original Charlotte Perriand designs. Across from the Heerenhuis is a pair of French doors that lead out to the back deck and on the far side of the room is a passageway that leads to the family room.

The back deck offers a second dining experience with a completely different ambiance. Weathered and worn planks create the top of the outdoor dining table and simple set of 5 bistro chairs are combined with a bench for a more relaxed setting in keeping with the location.

The deck is adjacent to a large wooded park and a few 100 feet into it, the homeowners have set up another similar outdoor dining area. This time a picnic setting of weathered wood table and benches (through La Redoute) is paired with 2 bistro chairs. A Dondolino wicker Bonacina seat is suspended from a tree for a relaxed and shady spot to enjoy the views.

Back in the house, the library, just beyond the Dining Room is wrapped in shelving that contains more photographs framed similarly to the wall of photos, as well as books and personal mementos. A Sarah Lavoine couch sports grey linen and black piping. The piping ties in with the country chick table and chairs.

The family room is wrapped in bench seating with storage below. Finished in a Teal Green and upholstered in a Sky Blue, the colourful seating is finished off with an array of yellow, purple and blue pillows. Add to this the Fuschia window coverings and it is very clear that the homeowners love colour. The Moroccan area rug offers the only pattern other then the one created by the white ceiling beams and Teal ceiling,

The living space was opened up to the view of the park with the installation of a large uninterrupted window on one side and the original windows on the wall next to it. This two sided view of the park , brings the outdoors inside and that feeling of connection is encouraged with the use of vintage Olive Green armchairs and Cobalt Blue velvet sofas. The Sassy green sculpture standing guard behind the sofa is a whimsical nod to traditional garden sculptures. The over scale chunky coffee table adds to the outdoor feel.

The first guest room showcases a Sarah Lavoine Caravan bed with two steel benches at the foot. A pair of floor lamps flank the bed as does a pair of oval side tables , positioned on an angle to fit the narrow space. The linens follow the black and white colour scheme as does the drapery, art and flooring.

Unlike the first guest room, the 2nd one is full of saturated colour. Raspberry linens on the bed are juxtaposed against a Steel Blue headboard. Burgundy walls and Purple drapery continue the colour story and the finished result is a rich, cozy colour hug.

The main bathroom is back to the neutral with the use of naturally finished wood planking on the walls. The vanity repeats the wood used on the walls and the hit of grey on the counter and mirror are the only deviation from the wood. The tapering profile of the mirror softens up the vertical lines of the wall paneling, and the sconces with their horizontal stripe breaks up the verticality.

The powder room is wrapped in a small blue mosaic that offers a nice contrast to the white of the vanity. A large wood framed mirror warms up the space and the traditional vanity compliments the original window.

At the far end of the park, the homeowners built a small studio for quiet reading, meditating and painting. The room is wrapped in charcoal paneling on the walls and natural paneling on the ceiling. A sink offers a clean up station for the painting area and the tall windows offer light without distraction.
