Described as a “wonderful modern escape,” the idea behind the Tuath na Mara Residence by MacGabhann Architects is that of a holiday home, every day of the year. This modern, thoughtful design overlooks a fjord in north Ireland’s countryside, hidden away from public view. On arrival via the secluded and downward-sloping path, the first view of this contemporary cottage home is from above, of its rooftop – a contorted, charcoal-colored crown set atop a narrow, elongated frame that affords each room a front-row seat by the sea. The cottage ’s two main den areas – one positioned at each end of this linear design – are enclosed in glass, while between them are the bedrooms and additional living areas. MacGabhann Architects
