This cool cottage house plan by Washington-based Balance Associates Architects certainly strikes a fine balance between indoors and out, man and nature, raw and refined. Located on Cortes Island, this not-so-quaint Canada cottage sits on a bedrock base, with the home’s entry-side grounded and the sea-side of the house plan raised on stilts and overlooking the water. The main living area of this open concept home features the den, dining room and kitchen, ideal for entertaining or spending some quiet time reflecting and appreciating these pristine surroundings. A small but sweet outdoor entertaining area opens onto the living room via floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, while indoors, that in/out boundary is further dissolved through the use of natural materials like rich-colored wood and stone, and plenty of natural light. This waterfront cottage design is certainly a great escape. Balance Associates Architects
