This small Greek style house, the Doris’ Place, designed by Peter Barber Architects is a modern design that packs a lot of punch into a slim 4.5m site in Hackney, UK. The innovative mixed-use building maximizes on every bit of space in this dense city center. The innovative urban design allows for 650 livable units per hectare, and blends two maisonettes, a live/work unit and a retail component surrounding a central patio. The house features a Mediterranean flavor with its matte white facade and elliptical profile. And in keeping with true Greek Isle style, the courtyard, which is overlooked on either side by a collection of uniquely shaped windows, offers residents their own private piece of the outdoors. Doris’ Place was shortlisted for the RIBA Award. Peter Barber Architects.
