Australia’s Ashton Raggatt McDougall Architects have designed this amazing holiday beach house, fittingly dubbed the K House for a family whose name begins with the same letter. It’s a significant symbol for the design, which is shaped like the letter “K,” cut and rotated in half – a cool configuration that affords it both building height and the best views. Inside, the main floor houses a garage and an outdoor living area, covered to allow for all-weather al fresco entertaining. Also on the ground floor are a sound-proof home theater, two bedrooms, a bath, cellar and storage. The real statement pieces in this modern house are the kitchen cabinetry and pantry, a massive sliding door and the floor-to-ceiling K-shaped bookshelf that houses the homeowner’s 5,000-book collection, which are all splashed in an arresting shade of glossy red.
