Stylish Japanese Hair Salon Made of Concrete and Wood

Vinyl’s Mix is a stylish Japanese hair salon, that also incorporates music, in Osaka. Completed by SIDES CORE, the salon opened in a new location looking sleek in its concrete and wood dress.

The contemporary industrial style of the place dictated a simple yet clean design. Concrete walls and floors aren’t the only elements of the urban-inspired place, however. There are plenty of partitions made of untreated wood that give the salon a bit of inviting warmth.

A completely exposed ceiling is filled with beams, lights, and pipes. It contrasts with the rest of the interior not only because of the abundance of details but also because of its pristine white color. Everything else in the salon is done in light grey concrete including a reception counter that doubles as a DJ table.

The mentioned untreated wood partitions hide the working areas of the salon. Only the waiting zone feels decorated, if barely. Chairs and mirrors create public working areas for hairstylists and their clients. But even they are so minimal, as not to break the flow of the stripped industrial atmosphere.

Equipped with the speakers, the modern salon offers clients to relax with music and heavy but colorful books while waiting for a haircut. The area in the back features an office and a staff room with a desk and a bookcase.

The salon might look unexpected and simple. But it fits surprisingly well with its urban surroundings. Even the windows open up to the views of a concrete wall of the neighboring building. This could be a detriment for a different interior design. Here, it is just another cool accent.

Its entry deserves a separate note, as the big wall-sized sliding doors open the salon up both ways. From both inside and outside, it feels like a continuation of the street with its concrete pavements and building maintenance blocks. And only a few wooden elements make it a little more welcoming to the passersby that care to raise their eyes from the pavement.
