Archiplanstudio recently designed a modern Italian apartment for a young family in Busto Arsizio. The modern open layout dwelling is finished in wood, furnished with wooden items, and features mostly wooden design elements. And yet it is completely contemporary and cool.
Located in the attic of a five-storey building, the apartment benefits from slanted ceilings decorated with beams. Comprising a dining room with a seating area, home office, and a bathroom, it is actually an extension to a dwelling on a lower floor.
Balancing white paint and plastered walls, the mostly wooden interior is dynamic and cool. In spite of heavy wood-heavy elements, the apartment doesn’t appear rustic in any way. It’s contemporary, it’s modern, and it’s very bright and light. The skylights in the slanted roof ensure there’s plenty of daylight in the rooms and a new bathroom.
The apartment is a continuation of zones. It starts with a seating area adjoined by a bathroom, flowing into a spacious dining with what appears to be half a kitchen, and ends with a home office. A wooden slat screen wall is all that divides these areas. The rest of the space is free-flowing and open.
To make the decor more eye-catchy the designers opted for a freestanding glass tableware cabinet, different chairs, and a golden brass light for the dining area. The home office desk too makes for an attractive, elaborate addition to decor, but the rest is kept simple yet elegant. Likewise the bathroom boasts a claw foot freestanding tub that makes for a statement decorative element in the room. Modern built-ins were too made a part of the design. They include storage spaces as well as a bench that goes from wall to wall.
