Designed by architectural firm Marmol Radziner and Associates, the award-winning Altamira Residence in southern California’s Palos Verdes Peninsula is a modern modular home formed of “steps.” Each major component of the home – the main house, the guest house, the library and the detached garage – are individual structures, staggering their way down the sloping terrain and towards the Pacific Ocean below. Although separate, these living areas still maintain a sense of unity in their exteriors of elongated stone, concrete and large windows. Exteriors innovatively incorporate interior design elements, such as the built-in corner fireplace facing an outdoor living room. Interiors, on the other hand, invite the outdoors via the floor-to-ceiling windows and warm, woody finishes throughout. This spectacular modular home is one of the deserving winners at the 38th Annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards. Marmol Radziner and Associates.
