The idea for the Moroso Matrizia Sofa design popped into his head when Ron Arad saw an old mattress discarded in the street. And therein lies brilliance in design – the ability to see things that others cannot. Now that we know where it came from, it’s easy to see. And it is brilliant. It’s a sofa sculpture and the name – Matrizia – is a combination of ‘mattress’ and the brand’s creative director first name, Patrizia Moroso. The piece is a spring-based structure folded over in the shape of a sofa and secured with a wire frame. It’s then fully upholstered in a quilted jersey fabric. The effect is astounding – a real conversation piece in any seating area. And probably comfortable enough to have a nap on, too!
