Moth Chair, designed by Jonas Hoejgaard for Nordic Tales as part of his After Eight collection, is a peculiar take on Scandinavian modernist style. Cleaved right down the middle of its back, it represents the wings of the nocturnal butterflies. Plywood seat and minimalist metallic frame cement the modernist aesthetic in what is essentially a postmodernist design approach.
Thanks to its ergonomic back, the back support is enough to use it as a home office chair, but we somehow like it in a dining room the most.
The chair’s structure is simple and honest, but has enough sophistication to put it in almost any contemporary context. Moulded plywood and coated steel are the two major elements of its design. Small imported champagne corks seal the metallic buttons on the back of the chair. Other than than that, the chair is designed and produced in Denmark.
Pairing Moth chair with a matching dining table should be a breathe. The simpler the table design, the better. Let the seats make all the impression and take all the attention. There are quite a few mid-century modern style tables and desks on the market to match the style. And if you want to use it as a freestanding room chair, you better not hang anything on its back.
Although its frame is a dark green constant, the seat and back come in three variations that include smoked oak, natural oiled oak, and white oiled oak. We must admit that the darkest version looks the most stylish and outstanding to us. Tell us, what do you think?
