Stackable Birch Stool 60 by Artek – Design Classics
Originally designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933, Stool 60 stackable birch stool has become a design classic. Many have reinterpreted this funky and cool 3-leg stools ever since, but the original will always be the best. The secret of the original stool’s success lies in the unique bends of the legs which has eventually become the distinctive feature of all Aalto’s furniture. Artek, the historic manufacturer of this stool, offers it in many different versions: the legs in birch can be lacquered natural, black or white, while the seat can be birch veneer, white laminate, black linoleum, lacquered in orange, green, yellow, turquoise, black and white, or upholstered in fabric or leather. To celebrate the 80th birthday of the iconic stool, Artek have decided to dress it up in designer clothes. This year they released a number of anniversary editions including a playful polka dot pattern by Japanese fashion designer and founder of Comme des Garçons Rei Kawakubo. Other funky colors and patterns by well-known fashion designers are also available.
